Betty Jane Riffle Huffer
Betty Jane Riffle Huffer, age 88, of Hebron, passed away into her eternal life on December 8, 2011 at home.
She was born on December 14, 1922, in Lancaster, to the late Homer and Jennie (Binkley) Riffle. A 1940 graduate of Amanda Clearcreek High School, she went to Cosmetology School and worked for years in Lancaster as a hairdresser, while assisting her husband with farming. Her lifelong job of caring for her family and homemaking, included devoting years to the home care of her mother, until her cancer made it difficult to continue, being a two time cancer survivor.
She attended and was married in Maple Street EUB Church, and after relocation became a member of the Hebron United Methodist Church. With a smile on her face, she attended every service, taught Sunday School and served on the church education committee of the board for years. She was God’s faithful servant.
She contributed her jello salad for all the church fundraising dinners and potlucks, giving whatever she had to whomever was in need. As the local “taxi driver”, she always worried about getting children to Sunday School and youth meetings. She belonged to Club 55 of Hebron until her husband’s death in 2004.
Along with her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Eugene. She leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law Rita (Steven) Mohler, of Millersport; special friends, Deanne and Jeff Clem family, Don and Wilma Mohler and family who included her in all family events; brother-in-law, Harold “Emerson” Huffer; nieces, Becky (Dan) Parrish and Linda (Mark) Dutcher; and a host of beloved friends and special caregivers.
A funeral service celebrating her life was held December 13, 2011, with Pastors Brian Harkness and Brian Vinson as celebrants. Burial was at Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Lancaster. Memorials may be made to The Hebron United Methodist Church building fund or to Millersport Vocal Music.
