Dawes Arboretum - Ohio 13, three miles north of I-70.

Holiday Greenery Workshop- Saturday, December 10, from 9 to 11 a.m. OR 12- 2 p.m. Cost is $30/$20 members. Meet in the Visitors Center. Don your holiday attire and head over to The Arboretum for our popular centerpiece class! Deck your table or hearth with a custom made arrangement filled with aromatic greens and eye-catching accents harvested from our grounds. We’ll supply all the materials needed to complete your display including candles and ribbon. Two sessions of this program are being offered; please sign up for either the morning or afternoon session.

Holiday Decorations for Wildlife Saturday, December 10, from 9 a.m. - noon. Cost is $30/$20 members; Zand Education Center. Attend this fun, entertaining workshop to build a wreath or swag for wildlife! Once you have the wreath or swag making basics down you can embellish your work of art with tasty, edible decorations just for wildlife. These holiday decorations must be set outdoors on a front door, barn door or fence where wildlife can take advantage of it. All materials are provided to complete your creation-greens, unsalted popcorn and peanuts, cranberries for stringing, pine cones to be stuffed with peanut butter and birdseed, fruit slices and more!

Night Hike - Friday, December 16, from 5 - 7 p.m. Free with donations welcome. Meet on the Vistors Center deck. Experience The Arboretum at night! Kids and adults are welcome to attend one of our most popular programs as we hike through collections, grasslands and woodlands. Night hikes are for individuals, couples and families. Scout troops are asked to call the Education Department for current scout-specialized programs.

Home School Investigations: Winter Preparations - Tuesday, Dec. 20, from 9 - 10:30 a.m., $5 per child at the Discovery Center. Join other home school students in exploration of our natural world. Each 90-minute session includes hands-on science study correlated with the Ohio Academic Content Standards for Science. Sessions are for ages 6 - 10.

The grounds are open from dawn to dusk. The Visitors Center is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays and holidays. More more information visit www. dawes arb.org

A Victorian Christmas - Davis Shai House, Heath. Experience a Victorian Christmas from 4 - 9 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10. Enjoy more than 60 decorated trees, window exhibits, displays and entertainment in a warm tent. Story by Father Christmas at 7 p.m. Free.

Free Nature Craft Day - William C Kraner Nature Center. Come in out of the cold and create some “nature crafts” that could be used for holiday gift giving from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 10. Contact: mvs@ohionature.org

Owls of Ohio - William C Kraner Nature Center. Join us from 2 - 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 11, as we learn to identify some of the common and not-so common owls that you can expect to find in Ohio. You’ll learn about their habitats, their adaptations and other fun facts. LIVE OWLS WILL BE PRESENT! Presented by Casey Tucker. $5 per person. Contact: mvs@ohionature.org

Toy Drive - Thornville. The Thorn Township Fire Department’s annual Toy Drive continues from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 10. New toys and cash donations may be dropped off at the new fire station at 13770 Zion Road. Donations will benefit needy children in the community. For more information call 246-4480.

Outville Christmas Parade - Outville. The 16th annual Outville Christmas parade starts at 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 10. Immediately following the parade at the Harrison Township Community Complex, there will be entertainment, a goodies auction, and a visit from Santa himself.

Wildlights - Columbus Zoo. Festivities take place Sunday through Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 5 to 10 p.m. through Jan. 1, 2012. This year’s display will be bigger and brighter than ever before with the addition of the Global Celebrations Holiday Light Show, an animated holiday light show featuring new songs and designs and a globe in the center of Conservation Lake. Candlelight Tour - Lancaster. The Fairfield Heritage Association presents its 33rd annual guided walking tour of eight beautiful historic churches, beginning at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10. Ugly Sweater Pizza Party -Newark. The Newark Library invites students in grades 6-12 to the Teen Art Gallery, located on the lower level on Wednesday, December 14 from 4:30 to 5:30 pm for free pizza, laughing at ugly sweaters, prizes, and games in exchange for program, teen space, and book collection ideas! Wear the ugliest sweater you can find; prizes will be awarded for “Best Creation, Most Unique, and Ugliest”. Bring a canned food item if you want and we will donate the canned goods to the Licking County Food Pantry. FREE pizza and breadsticks will be served, so be sure to register by Monday, December 12! Buckeye Valley Bluegrass Opry - Luray. The 2011 season wraps up with concerts Friday, Dec. 9 and Saturday, Dec. 10. Friday opens with Grassahol at 5 p.m. with The Boxcars at 7 & 8 p.m. Saturday night opens with Second Wind Bluegrass Band at 4 p.m. followed by Missy Werner Bluegrass Band at 5 & 7 p.m. and Frosty Morning Bluegrass Band at 6 & 8 p.m. Doors and kitchen open at 4 p.m. Tickets are available at the door. Heisey Wind Ensemble Christmas Concert- Newark. The Heisey Wind Ensemble presents their annual holiday program with a concert titled “Christmas at the Reese Center” on Saturday, December 10, at 8:00 p.m. The 60 member concert band is under the direction of Dr. Russel Mikkelson, Director of Bands at The Ohio State University in Columbus. Tickets are $15 adults, $10 seniors (60+) and $5 students.

Away in the Basement: A Church Basement Ladies Christmas - Newark. Away in the Basement: A Church Basement Ladies Christmas will be performing on December 15, 2011 at 7:00 pm at the historic Midland Theatre, in downtown Newark. And out of the basement shall come a Church Basement program of good tidings, great humor and joy! The ladies are serving it up again! This time around it’s an all-new holiday show. Tickets prices: $35, $30, and $25.
