Lloyd Noel Blackford

A funeral service for Lloyd Noel Blackford, age 88, of Heath, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at the Heath Chapel of Henderson Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service. Burial will take place in Cedar Hill Cemetery where military honors will be observed by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. Mr. Blackford passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2011, at his home. He was born November 30, 1922, in Chauncey, Ohio, to the late George Gerald and Nellie (Jones) Blackford.

Mr. Blackford was a graduate of Chauncey High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps and had been a POW held at Stalag Luft IV in Germany during World War II. He retired in 1985 from the Newark Air Force Base after twenty-two years of service where he had been a supervisor in a clean room. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, camping and traveling and took great pride in his yard.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ethel Mae (Mulpas) Blackford, whom he married November 15, 1947; by three children, Janice (Bill) Careins of Thornville, Gary (Ruth) Blackford of Hebron and Gail (Phil) Blizzard of Heath; grandchildren, Greg Careins, Brian Careins, Rachel Donaldson, Charlotte Blackford, Danielle Dawson and David Blizzard; five greatgrandchildren; sisters, Carolyn Blackford and Betty Blackford, both of The Plains, Ohio and Lois Ann Bartlett of Williamstown, West Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
