THANK YOU

Each Thanksgiving we thank and ask you to support our display advertisers who make your paper possible.

It's been another tough year for many of us. This list is quite a bit shorter than last year's. Many of our local businesses are struggling, and quite a few have closed their doors.

Local businesses are the foundation of our local economy. They are always the first ones asked to support benefits and other fundraising efforts. Most give generously, sometimes dozens of times a year. Many also provide the first employment opportunities for our children.

Please return the favor. Shop local first for the holidays and next year. You'll be pleasantly surprised at what you can find in your own backyard. Service will be exceptional; often you'll be dealing with an owner. Prices will be competitive, particularly when you consider the time and fuel it takes to drive to Columbus, Lancaster or Newark. Your time is a very valuable commodity.

Shopping local keeps your money in your hometown. Some of your sales tax stays here, supporting services for you. Your home counties lose out entirely when you shop in Columbus or on the Internet.

Shop local first – It’s in your best interest!

A special thanks to Baltimore Market IGA, our largest advertiser, and State Farm agent Tony Durieux of Newark. Tony has supported The Beacon from the beginning, advertising in every issue. That streak comes to an end with Tony's retirement next week. Thank you, Tony, and best wishes for a great retirement. Tony's retirement leaves Johnson Smith Funeral Home of Baltimore as our last every-issue advertiser.

Thank you!
