Carl L. Cooperrider
Carl L. Cooperrider, 96, of Glenford, formerly of Somerset and Newark, died Nov. 15, 2011, at Autumn at the Lake in Thornville.
Carl was born May 7, 1915, in Somerset, the son of the late Edgar R. and Rosa May Hummel Cooperrider.
He was a graduate of Glenford High School and a World War II Army Air Force veteran. He was a member of the Somerset American Legion Leo Ryan Post 58, and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Newark where he taught Sunday School. Carl retired from ODOT where he was a right-of-way agent. He farmed and had a passion for planting trees. He loved reading, writing, and history.
Carl is survived by three daughters, Linda (Carl) Keaser of Glenford, Mary (Roger) Ervin of Glenford, and Norma (Rev. James) Friesner of Ludington, MI; five grandchildren, Dr. Jennifer (Chad) Hamilton, Jaclyn Keaser, Jason “Kelly” (Kendra) Ray, Emily (Joshua) Wellman, and Carl Friesner; seven greatgrandchildren, Josiah and Zachariah Hamilton, Kourtnee and Kacy Ray, and Hannah, Jarod and Nora Wellman; one brother, Edwin Cooperrider of Nebraska; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Kalb Cooperrider (2003); two sisters, Kathlyn (Joseph) Lamphere and Evelyn Cooperrider; and a nephew, Dr. Craig Cooperrider.
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011, at the Bope-Thomas Funeral Home in Somerset and one hour prior to the service at the church. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 67 North 5th St., Newark, with Pastor William Rauch officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Glenford, with Somerset American Legion Post 58 providing military honors.
