Writer gets history lesson

Last month I got the opportunity to attend a meeting and dinner at the Millersport American Legion with its members. Before dinner, Bob Weldon and I talked with many long time Legion members and got a first hand history lesson concerning the growth and transformation of the Buckeye Lake area during the last 60 years.

Their memories are sharp and their sense of humor is refreshing. By the end of the evening I realized what a wealth of information exists in our tiny community. There is no doubt in my mind that our community and country is a better place because of what these men and women sacrificed for all of us. All over the United States there are American Legions and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts that meet and continue to serve their communities by paying forward through local activities and functions. These men and women are another example of why the Buckeye Lake region is a great place to live and raise children.
