Watkins deserves re-election

I have lived in Bowling Green Township for over eight years and have followed the local political scene closely. I know, and have spoken with, every elected official of the township. I am also in a very unique position, literally, as my home borders both the township buildings and the home of Don Watkins, current township trustee and incumbent this election. I see a great deal more of what takes place with the trustees and employees of this township than nearly any other person in the township, including Jeff Chorpenning.

Over the years, I’ve watched the trustees and employees of this township both day and night. During the winter months, I’ve watched the trustees working aggressively around the township in an effort to keep our roads clear and safe. Don Watkins has always been with them. During his tenure, I’ve never seen Chorpenning working in this manner a single time.

Chorpenning has a small, vocal group of supporters. These same individuals are the ones who’ve been waging a nasty campaign of character assassination against Don Watkins through letter writing to local newspapers for years. This campaign of name calling, innuendos, accusations and negativity is vile and rubs me the wrong way. I don’t care for bullies like Chorpenning who is exceedingly negative and tries to rule through intimidation.

I’ll vote for someone who shares my values of fairness, honesty and integrity. Chorpenning does not reflect these values. Mr. Don Watkins, an honest, hardworking man, deserves our vote this Election Day.
