Paul Leland Shepherd

A funeral service for Paul Leland Shepherd, 87, of Hebron, was held on October 10, 2011, at Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, with Pastor Brian Harkness officiating. Burial followed in Wilson Cemetery, where military honors were conducted by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.

Paul, a retired self-employed heating and air conditioning specialist, passed away October 6, 2011, at his residence. He was born May 10, 1924, in Licking County, to the late Homer L. and Eva F. (Jones) Shepherd.

Paul was a PFC US Army Veteran serving in Italy during WWII, where he earned the Battle Star, Good Conduct Medal, and Bronze Star. He was a member of the Newark Masonic Lodge #97.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Virginia C. (Colling) Shepherd, whom he married on Feb. 15, 1947; daughters, Carol Diane (James W.) Calhoun of Abilene, TX and Janet Louise (Charles E.) Barnum of Heath; sons, James Paul (Leinda) Shepherd of Hebron and Bruce Duanne (Lisa Matusky) Shepherd of Hebron; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Roger Allen Shepherd; brother, Robert L. Shepherd; sister, Helen M. Douglas.
