Thorn Township is proposing new zoning rules

I am writing to address the rumor that is spreading around Thorn Township concerning the possibility of the Thorn Township Zoning Board adding boatdock restrictions to the township’s zoning resolution.

As a zoning board member I can say the rumor is true. Approximately six months ago it was brought to the board’s attention that lakeside residents had concerns and questions about the construction new docks – their own and their neighbor’s. Most of the concerns were about location and property lines.

Zoning Inspector Todd Brune and former Zoning Inspector Dale Factor commented that the majority of complaints they receive/received as zoning inspector concerned this issue and suggested the board might want to take a look at the issue.

The Zoning Board has not received any input from Thorn Township Trustees. The zoning board has scheduled a public hearing at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011, for residents to voice their opinion on this matter. The meeting will be held at the Thorn Township Building, 13780 Zion Road, Thornville. Please attend or feel free to call me at 246-4427 to voice your opinion.
