Chorpenning gives volunteers credit for new township park

Editor:

I qualify as one of the “critics” trustee candidate Donald Watkins refers to in his letter in last week’s Beacon.

It is good to see him finally say something to the public about his insurance reimbursement scam. It is true; Watkins could not have started this scheme without the participation of Township Fiscal Officer Duval. Back in the day, Watkins just said write me out some checks and no questions were asked.

It appears he can’t be blamed for taking our money illegally and keeping it. After all, he again states he is saving us money. Yes, writing blank checks was common practice in Bowling Green Township until 2006 – that’s no joke!

Watkins went on to spare no volunteer relegations in his response to “his critics”. Note how his letter used the words “me, myself, and I” 18 times in 250 words or less. He describes his trash mandate as his fair and consistent negotiation yet the full color video tells a much different story.

His rushed trash contract may very well put our township into a legal quagmire. “Do as I say and not as I do” would be a much better campaign slogan for the long-time incumbent. Regarding grants, he described himself as instrumental... really??

I know one thing; he missed his “high road” on this one, but “I” won’t. Thank you park committee, contributors and volunteers for writing the grants that built “our” new township park! Volunteers Rock and Voters Rule!
