Operation Medicine Cabinet set for Saturday, Oct. 8

NEWARK – Drop off your expired and unused prescriptions and over-the-counter medications to be disposed of by the Licking County Sheriff’s Office. Drive up, drop off, drive away... No questions asked.

Why should you participate?

* Tests have detected minute concentrations of pharmaceuticals in the drinking water supplies of at least 46 million people.

* The Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) reported in 2007 that prescription abuse is now the TOP source of drugs for 12-13 year olds.

* ONDCP also reported in 2008 that 70% of youth obtain prescription drugs for free from friends or family.

* 28% of geriatric hospitalizations are attributed to adverse reactions from medications.

You can safely dispose expired and unused prescriptions and OTC medications from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, October 8, at Wilson Middle School, 805 W. Church St., Newark.
