Benefit for Nikki Wiles set for Sept. 17

HEBRON – Nikki Wiles learned on July 16, 2011 that she has Transverse Myelitis.

It’s a rare spinal disease that has left her paralyzed from the upper waist down. The onset of paralysis happened within a matter of days, with no warning. Though steroids treatment of deteriorated nerve tissue in her spinal column was unsuccessful, family members and friends are hopeful for a recovery in a couple of years.

A benefit/poker run is set for Saturday, Sept. 17. The poker run begins at Grapevine Pub, 8531 Refugee Rd., Pickerington, with a 11:30 a.m. check-in. The cost is $20 per driver and $5 per passenger.

The benefit begins at 4 p.m. at the Mill Dam Drive Thru, 9916 Mill Dam Rd., Hebron. It includes a dinner buffet for a donation, auction and 50/50 drawing.

Proceeds will be used to make Nikki’s home wheelchair accessible and possibly convert her vehicle to allow her to drive.

All donations, including food, are welcome. Contact Lesa Smith at (740) 616-9083.
