Thanks for Kid’s Fishing Rodeo

Editor:

What started off last year as an event sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW 1388 has grown into a major event with the Men’s Auxiliary and support from the VFW Post 1388. I want to thank the Men’s Auxiliary members for all their help.

So many to thank, so little space. First, Mike Cook. He did just about everything and would only say ” It’s for the kids.” Thanks to Rudy Schmidt, Tom Ekstine, and Gary Glover for their unmeasurable talents at keeping statistics; Don Frankhauser; “Dent Man” Daily; Roger Mummy; Canteen Manager and Acting Commander Jeff Wolfe; Z’s Bait Shop, for donating bait and helping with other costly items; Joe the Chip Man for always donating chips to anything for the kids; Walmart; Pam Barr of Sammy J’s Deli; Linda Graves; Mary Schilling; Jeff Watson of Watson’s Valero for donating bait; Steve & Connie Schilling for letting us fish off on their land; Pete Stollard for the travel mugs; George Fee; John Stoner; and VFW 1388 for their generous donations.

It was a beautiful day and everyone enjoyed themselves. The 26 kids caught 131 fish and won great prizes for Biggest Fish, First Fish, Most Turtles and Most Fish. Everyone got an American flag, a travel mug, a fish key chain and a McDonald’s gift card. We had a drawing for three tackle boxes, four rod and reels, various bobbers, hooks, lanterns, and 15 extra $5 McDonald’s gift cards.

The rodeo will be back next year around the same time. All children are welcome.

We are blessed to live where we can come and go as we please. We are a free country because of our Veterans. God Bless America,

Lauralyn Palmer, President LAVFW 1388
