Russell D. Miller
Russell D. Miller, age 95 of Newark, passed away on August 2, 2011. He was born in Newark to the late Edger and Ester Miller and attended Newark Public Schools. After his service in the Navy Construction Battalion in WW II, he attended trade school and received his certification as an electrician. He worked in construction throughout the western states, finally settling in Beaumont, Texas. Russell worked for Nixon Electric in Beaumont, purchased the company after the owner retired and stayed there until his retirement in 1980.
Russell was an avid scuba diver and owned The Scuba Shop in Beaumont. He was a PADI (#2210) certified diving instructor and loved to dive and teach in Cozumel, Mexico. He was a member of the Texas Gulf Coast Council of Diving Clubs where he served as Secretary from 1964-1967 and 1970, Treasurer in 1972, and President in 1973.
Russell moved back to Ohio in 1985 where he participated in square dancing and bowling.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Nenoshia Miller, Geneva Yost and Valeria Holland; and brothers, James and George Miller.
Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Marguerite Miller; two children by a previous marriage, Marilyn (Clarence) Jones of Cincinnati, and Walter (Pat) Miller of Hebron; sisters, Mona Rose Changet of Canton and Emma Kirkpatrick of Thornville; and several grandchildren.
According to his wishes, there will be no viewing hours or open services. Memorials can be made in his name to Hospice of Central Ohio, Alzheimer’s Association or a favorite charity.
