Suspect in Kirkersville bank heist caught

KIRKERSVILLE – Licking County Sheriff’s Office detectives believe the July 21 armed robbery of the Kirkersville branch of Park National Bank was a hometown job.

Johnnie R. Slone Jr., age 35, of South Alley in Kirkersville was arrested at approximately 11 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26 by Licking County Sheriff’s Office detectives and Cambridge (Ohio) Police officers.

A sheriff’s office release said after Slone was identified as a suspect, detectives learned that his gray and teal colored Chevy Silverado was parked at the Mountaineer Casino in Chester, WV. Search warrants were obtained for the Silverado and Slone’s home which resulted in the recovery of an undisclosed amount of cash that was taken from the bank during the robbery.

Slone was arrested without incident at the Greyhound Bus stop at 2245 Southgate Parkway, in Cambridge.

In an interview with detectives, Sloan allegedly admitted to robbing the bank. A knife was used as a weapon. Sloan will be charged with aggravated robbery and is currently in the Licking County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.
