#24 car visit benefits troops

BALTIMORE - Hundreds of NASCAR fans turned out May 28 to see Jeff Gordon’s # 24 car at Baltimore Market IGA.

G & J Pepsi Bottling of Columbus brought Gordon’s car to Baltimore and donated NASCAR promotional materials that “Sending Love Over There” volunteers from Christ United Methodist Church sold to support their weekly shipments to area troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The group has now sent more than 3,000 boxes since shipments started in February 2007. This is the fourth year the group has sold Pepsi donated NASCAR materials not normally available to the public.

“We’re hometown proud like the slogan says,” Baltimore Market IGA owner Clarence Cardwell said. “We’re pleased to be part of the IGA family and all the community good works it stands for.”

Christ United Methodist Church accepts donations for the weekly boxes year round. Items include sunscreen, playing cards, magazines, AA batteries, socks, gum and compact snack items. Call the church at 740 862-4343 for a more detailed list.
