Lady Lions heading to state tournament

LANCASTER - Liberty Union Thurston Lady Lions softball are headed to the Division III state softball tournament in Akron. The #3 ranked Lions with a 26-2 record face #6 West Liberty- Salem in a state semi-final game at 10 a.m. on Thursday. West Liberty has a 27-2 record and was state runner-up last year, falling 2-1 to Jeromesville Hillsdale.

Exceptional pitching from junior ace Sara Klopfer plus timely hitting and strong defense propelled the Lions to the state tournament. Klopfer held Lucasville

Valley to just three hits and struck out 12 for a 2-1 regional semi-final win Thursday.

Klopfer came back in the regional final against Ironton Rock Hill on Saturday with 14 more strikeouts, holding Ironton to just two hits. The Lions won 6-1.
