Library friends 5K is set for June 25

Editor:

How does a walk along the Ohio Canal Greenway sound?

The 2nd Annual Friends of the Buckeye Lake Library’s 5K Walk is set for Saturday, June 25. The walk begins at the Buckeye Lake Eagles lodge at Canal Road and Ohio 79. We will walk along the old Ohio Canal, then crossover to the Ohio Canal Greenway which includes a covered bridge and a shaded path back to the Eagles lodge.

If you’ve never walked this path, you’ll find it very scenic and calming. It’s also a very important part of Buckeye Lake’s history.

Baltimore historian and Ohio Canal expert Jim Reed will be on hand to explain the significance of the canal and how it impacts Buckeye Lake and Ohio history. He’ll present a short talk before the walk and then accompany us to answer questions.

Proceeds benefit the Friends of the Buckeye Lake Library who are responsible for providing and maintaining a home for the library including paying for utilities, insurance and repairs. Walk day registration begins at 8 a.m. with walkers heading out at 9 a.m. Early bird registration – by June 10 – is just $20 per walker. Registration after June 10 is $25.

Registration forms are available online at www.FriendsoftheBuckeyeLake- Library.org or can be picked up at the Buckeye Lake Pizza Cottage on Ohio 79. A registration form is also available on Page 11.

Sponsors are a very important part of our effort. Our major sponsors are Fairfield Medical Center, Alexander’s Landing and Buckeye Lake Pizza Cottage. Participating sponsors are A-1 Auto, Buckeye Lake; Buckeye Lake Hardware; Buckeye Lake Marina; Feeder Creek Vet Services, Millersport Community Theatre, Oak Creations, Tom Jones Insurance, Weldon’s Ice Cream; and Whetstone Medical Center.

Additional sponsors are always welcome! Right now we need you – walkers – for a leisurely walk through Buckeye Lake History.

Thank you for your support!

Pam Reed, President
Friends of Buckeye Lake Library
