Millersport resident promoted

COLUMBUS – Millersport resident Ohio State Highway Patrol Staff Lieutenant Patrick B. Vessels was recently promoted to the rank of captain by Colonel John Born, Patrol superintendent, during a ceremony at the Patrol’s Academy. Capt. Vessels will remain in the Office of Field Operations.

Capt. Vessels began his Patrol career in September 1985 as a cadet dispatcher at the Ironton post. He began training as a member of the 117th Academy Class in March 1988. He earned his commission in September of that year and was assigned to the Circleville Post, were he earned the Ace Award for excellence in auto larceny enforcement in 1990 and 1992 and was named Post Trooper of the Year and District Trooper of the Year in 1992. Capt. Vessel was promoted to the rank of sergeant and transferred to the Portsmouth Post in 1993 to serve as an assistant post commander. He transferred back to the Circleville Post in 1997 and earned the rank of lieutenant and served as the post commander in 2002. In 2009 he was promoted to the rank of staff lieutenant and transferred from the Circleville Post to his current assignment in Field Operations.

Capt. Vessels completed training at Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command in March 2006. He currently resides in Millersport with his wife, Carla. They have two sons; Race, 19, and Blake, 14.
