Writer objects to contract approval

Editor,

I want the community to know how disappointed my family was to read of what was approved 4-1 at a special Lakewood school board meeting recently.

What was approved was a five-year contract for Lakewood School District administrative and exempt staff members and certified staff members. Joe Bowman was accurate when he stated that disapproving the contracts was a “no-brainer.” Forrest Cooperrider was also accurate when he stated that there are so many unknown variables looming on the horizon. It is a “no-brainer” that having many unknown variables looming on the horizon supports NOT approving a five-year contract. Reading this makes us wonder who our school board members represent.

Even though the Lakewood administrators and school board are letting us down, we have hope in knowing that there are school administrators in other school districts who support Senate Bill 5.

I do want to thank The Beacon for publishing this in the May 7 issue to make all of Lakewood School District aware. Lastly, to the Lakewood administrators and school board, please know that my family is watching you as well as our community and that we do vote.
