Hebron gets fire grant

HEBRON – The Hebron Fire Department has been awarded a $99,000 grant to purchase new self-contained breathing apparatus. Hebron Fire Chief Randy Weekly said the grant would allow the the department to replace some older units.

The gear is worn by firefighters inside smoking or burning structures and during hazardous events. The federal Assistance to Firefighters Grant was recently announced by US Senator Rob Portman.

The primary goal of the AFG grant program is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations. Since 2001, AFG grants have helped firefighters and other first responders to obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources needed to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.
