Dawes Arboretum - Ohio 13, three miles north of I-70.

Arbor Day Festival - Saturday, April 30, beginning 10 a.m., It’s Arbor Day! Festival activities usher in spring and summer at the Dawes Arboretum, its busiest times. This Arbor Day Festival is an opportunity to learn about and show appreciation for what Mother Nature gives us and to spend a spring day enjoying the outside. An array of activities and educational displays go on all day, including tree climbing and kid’s crafts. FREE Donations welcome, visit www.dawesarb.org for more information.

Tasty Titles competition - Newark. Licking County Library is hosting a Tasty Titles competition on April 30, 2011 beginning at 2 pm. Bring a cake, sandwich, or other edible creation which represents a book title for this fun event at the Newark Library. Your edible book can look like a book, be a literary pun, refer to a character in a book, or simply have anything to do with books. Prizes will be awarded for the Best Tasting, Best Represents a Book or Title, Most Creative, and People’s Choice; Best in Show prizes for grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12, and adults will also be awarded. Set-up begins at 2 p.m., judging at 2:30 and eating at 3 p.m. This event is free of charge and open to the public. Registration is encouraged for those who wish to enter an edible book. Kar Shoz for Kidz - Buckeye Lake. It’s the Buckeye Lake Community Celebration Committtee’s first event this year. Jim Matheny is hosting with registration starting at noon on Saturday, April 30, at Buckeye Lake State Park’s North Shore Boat Ramp. Registration is $8 per vehicle. Laker Softball Fundraiser – Thurston. Millersport Laker Softball presents a restaurant fundraiser at PIZZA “Ria’s” Too in Thurston from 3-9 p.m. on Monday, May 9. Please call (740) 862-5969 to order pizza, subs, bread sticks, chicken fingers, salads, lasagna, and/or spaghetti. Present this announcement when you pick up your order and 10 percent of your purchase will go to the Millersport Laker Softball program. PIZZA “Ria’s” Too is at 2330 Main St, Thurston, 4.2 miles on Old Millersport Road from the school’s speed limit sign, turn left onto Ohio 256 (Main Street), it’s third on the left after crossing the railroad tracks.

Go Fly a Kite - Buckeye Lake. Come out to Buckeye Lake VFW Post 1388 on Ohio 360 from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 7, to see how many kites can fly at once. Bring your kite or use one of our’s if you don’t have one. Rain date is the same time on Saturday, May 14.

The Great Granville Garage Sale - Granville. Shop ‘till you drop...A huge, community-wide, multiple-household event to benefit the Licking County Coalition for Housing! Presented by St. Luke’s Church, Maps and bags will be available starting at 7 a.m. on April 30, at three locations:

• Opera House Park, corner of Main Street and Broadway

• Old gas station, Ohio 16, just north of Ohio 161 next to Creno’s,

Flint Ridge State Memorial And Museum Opening - Glenford. Opening day for this ancient quarry site of Native Americans is Saturday, May 7. It is famous for its high quality and colorful flint. A museum displays the qualities of flint and Native American uses of it. Several hiking trails bring the visitor close to ancient quarry pits as they wind their way through a diversity rich forest of abundant wildlife and plant communities. Licking County Recycling - Newark. Bring your tires and appliances to the Licking County Garage, 775 E. Main St., Newark, between 8 a.m. and noon on Saturday, May 14. Appliances are $5 each or $10 for those with freon. Limit 10 tires at $5 and up each.
