Birding Fundamentals Lecture Series: Session I: Tuesday, April 26, 7 – 9 p.m.- Whether just starting out or you’re a seasoned birder and you need a refresher course, these fundamental sessions are perfect! Session I topic: birding by sight and sound, including bird mnemonics (putting words to bird sounds). Arbor Day Festival - Saturday, April 30, beginning 10 a.m., It’s Arbor Day! Festival activities usher in spring and summer at the Dawes Arboretum, its busiest times. This Arbor Day Festival is an opportunity to learn about and show appreciation for what Mother Nature gives us and to spend a spring day enjoying the outside. Tasty Titles competition - Newark. Licking County Library is hosting a Tasty Titles competition on April 30, 2011 beginning at 2 pm. Bring a cake, sandwich, or other edible creation which represents a book title for this fun event at the Newark Library. Your edible book can look like a book, be a literary pun, refer to a character in a book, or simply have anything to do with books. Prizes will be awarded for the Best Tasting, Best Represents a Book or Title, Most Creative, and People’s Choice; Best in Show prizes for grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12, and adults will also be awarded. Setup begins at 2 p.m., judging at 2:30 and eating at 3 p.m. This event is free of charge and open to the public. Registration is encouraged for those who wish to enter an edible book. Kar Shoz for Kidz - Buckeye Lake. It’s the Buckeye Lake Com- munity Celebration Committtee’s first event this year. Jim Matheny is hosting with registration starting at noon on Saturday, April 30, at Buckeye Lake State Park’s North Shore Boat Ramp. Registration is $8 per vehicle. The Great Granville Garage Sale - Granville. Shop ‘till you drop...A huge, community-wide, multiple-household event to benefit the Licking County Coalition for Housing! Presented by St. Luke’s Church, Maps and bags will be available starting at 7 a.m. on April 30, at three locations:

Paddlepalooza - Ohio Expo Center, Columbus. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) is helping Ohioans with their destination planning by promoting outdoor recreation opportunities April 22-23 at Paddlepalooza in the Lausche Building at the Ohio Expo Center near downtown Columbus. Kayaking, canoeing, camping, hiking and biking enthusiasts from across the state will converge at Paddlepalooza which features outdoor destinations, informational how-to seminars and product displays that make outdoor activities fun, easy to learn and affordable for the entire family. ODNR staff will be on hand at Paddlepalooza to promote Ohio’s great trails, scenic rivers, state parks, as well as paddling and camping opportunities. As an added convenience to event patrons who purchase a canoe or kayak at the show, the Division of Watercraft is offering on-site sales of watercraft registrations and alternative registrations. ODNR displays can be found in Booths 407, 408, 507 and 508 near the demonstration pool at Paddlepalooza. Show hours are 4 - 8 p.m. on Friday, April 22 (Earth Day) and 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. Saturday, April 23. Admission for one or both days is $10 for adults; children age 12 and under are admitted free. Nelsonville Music Festival - Hocking College, Nelsonville. Stuart’s Opera House is thrilled to announce the addition of indie legends Yo La Tengo (Saturday, May 14) and the “Queen of Rockabilly” Wanda Jackson (Sunday, May 15) to the 7th annual Nelsonville Music Festival on May 13-15. Headlining on Saturday, May 14th will be rock superstars The Flaming Lips, country legend George Jones will take the stage on Friday, May 13th, and Neko Case will close the weekend off with a headlining set on Sunday, May 15th. They join Justin Townes Earle, Lost in the Trees, Bomba Estereo, Mucca Pazza, The Growlers, Michael Hurley, Baby Dee, Drakkar Sauna, and many more acts to be announced! The festival is a production of Stuart’s Opera House and will take place May 13-15 at Robbins Crossing on the campus of Hocking College in Nelsonville, Ohio.
