Sheridan grad playing in Division III Sweet 16
MARIETTA – Sheridan High School graduate Brian Crader is playing in the NCAA Division III Sweet 16 this Friday.
Crader, a 2009 graduate, plays for the Marietta College basketball Pioneers who defeated Wittenberg University last Saturday 63-62 to reach the Sweet 16.
The No. 11 ranked Pioneers face No. 1 Whitworth of Spokane, Washington, at 5:30 p.m. on Friday at Wooster. This is the furthest the basketball Pioneers have ever progressed in the NCAA Division III tournament.
If the Pioneers win Friday, they will face the winners of the 7:30 game on Saturday. That winner will travel to Salem, Virginia, next weekend for the Final Four match-ups.
Marietta won both the regular season and tournament title in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Crader’s playing time was limited during much of the regular season due to bilateral ankle injuries, but he has been playing in the recent tournament games. This year he is averaging 2.1 points per game with a 43.8 percent field goal average, 42.1 percent from three-point range and 72.7 percent free throw average.
As a freshman last year, Crader played in 26 games and started eight times. He lettered and averaged 4.5 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game.
