Richard A. “Kingfish” Shephard
Richard A. “Kingfish” Shephard, 85, of Thornville, died February 16, 2011, at his residence.
Richard was born November 6, 1925 in Pickerington, the son of the late Grover P. and Golda Shephard.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the Somerset American Legion Leo Ryan Post 58, and was a World War II Army veteran. He was employed by Roper Corp. in Newark for 21 years, retiring in 1976, and was a lifetime farmer.
He enjoyed bowling, fishing in Canada, and cutting firewood with his dog, Addie.
Richard is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Mae Pawley Shephard, whom he married June 14, 1947; one daughter, Mildred Shephard of the home; two sons, Rick (Mary) Shephard of Thornville and David (Kristi) Shephard of Wapakoneta; six grandchildren, Jena Shephard, Rachel Beck, Zachary Shephard, Sarah Ruen, ElvaAnne Shephard, and Gallant Shephard; and three great-grandchildren, Carson, Kiera and Chase.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Eileen.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Feb. 22, 2011, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Jacob Gordon as celebrant, assisted by Father Larry Reichley and the Rev. Mr. Gene Dawson. Burial followed in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery with Somerset American Legion Post 58 providing full military honors.
