Dawes Arboretum - Ohio 13, three miles north of I-70.

Maple Syrup Madness- Saturday, Feb. 19 – Saturday, March 5. Don’t miss this once a year event! Sap is collected from our own sugar maple trees and boiled down to sweet smelling syrup right before your eyes. Witness the process and sip a tasty sample! Take the trail on your own for a self-guided adventure, attend a Saturday 2 p.m. public tour, or sign up for a group tour with the Education Department, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday – Saturday, 1 – 4 p.m. Sundays, Free.

The grounds are open from dawn to dusk. The Visitors Center is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays and holidays. Call 740-323-2355 or 800-44-DAWES for information or visit www.dawesarb.org.

Youth Bingo - Buckeye Lake. The Buckeye Lake Youth Association is sponsoring bingo for youth ages K through 5th grade from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26 at the clubhouse at 140 3rd Street. There will be prizes and free refreshments.

Denison Museum Family Day - Granville. Denison Museum will host a Family Day from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26, in the Denison Museum (240 West Broadway). The event features exhibition tours, a scavenger hunt, story time, and print making activities based on the current exhibition “The Rockwell Kent Project.” Refreshments will be served and all ages are welcome to this free event. “Fast Food Nation” author to speak - Denison University, Granville. Eric Schlosser, best-selling author of “Fast Food Nation,” will speak about the technologies of nuclear weapons at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, in the auditorium of Denison University’s Slayter Hall (200 Ridge Road). The lecture is free and open to the public.

Half Price Zoo Admission - Powell. The winter months are always a great time to visit the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, especially with 50% off regular admission this January and February. Admission rates are $6.50 for general admission, $4.00 for children ages two through nine and senior citizens 60 years and over. Children under two years of age and Columbus Zoo members are always free during regular operating hours. Worried about the cold? Don’t be. There are a variety of indoor attractions. The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is open every day through February from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information visit www.columbuszoo.org

Central Ohio Home & Garden Show - Ohio Expo Center, Columbus. The 2011 Central Ohio Home & Garden Show begins Saturday, Feb. 26, and runs through Sunday, March 6, at the Ohio Expo Center. The show’s continued popularity has led to extended hours to accommodate day trips, corporate and social groups and clubs. For 2011, the show hours are: Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sundays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Tuesday-Friday, noon to 8 p.m. CLOSED MONDAY, February 28th. Tickets are $12 at the door for adults. Children ages 12 and under are admitted free. $2 off discount coupons are available at www.dispatchevents.com along with complete show information. Parking is $5.

‘Cat-A-Thon’ - Heath. Anyone interested in adopting one of a number of friendly cats is invited to stop by Complete Petmart, 597 Hebron Road, in the Southgate Shopping Center, during regular hours Friday, Saturday and Sunday, February 25 thru 27. The only cost related to a cat adoption is for vaccinations and spay/neuter services. Licking County staff and volunteers will man the event.

Composting Dead Animals Workshop - Newark. Proper composting

- done without odors, vermin or objectionable gases - is the focus. Speaking will be experts from Ohio State University Extension and Soil and Water Conservation Districts. A composting manual is included. The March 8 workshop runs from 7:30-9:30 p.m. at Licking County OSU Extension, 771 E. Main St., Suite 103, Newark. Theatre

Shamrock Musical - Millersport. Millersport Community Theatre proudly presents “Shamrock Minstrel” directed by Mark A. Severance. The production will be at the Millersport Elementary Auditorium, 11850 Lancaster St. on Friday, March 4 and Saturday, March 5t at 8 p.m. Tickets are $8. Reservations are requested. Call 740-277-6479 to reserve your seats. If available, tickets will be sold at the door. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.
