Wilbur C. Welch
Wilbur C. Welch, 73, of Pickerington, former resident of Lancaster, died Thursday, November 25, 2010 at Fairfield Medical Center.
He was the Fire Chief for the Lancaster Fire Department, retiring after 27 years of service. He was a member of the International Association of Firefighters, operated Wilbur C. Welch Lawn Care, sat on the Violet Cemetery Board and enjoyed deer hunting.
He is survived by his companion of 2 years, Anita LeGrand of Pickerington; four daughters, Glenna Ankrom of Pleasantville, Rhonda (Tim) Brown, Vickie Simms, and Amy Steele all of Lancaster; nine grandchildren, Sarah Treitmaier, Tiffany (Brian) Sunderland, Heather (Josh) Colopy, Bethany Ankrom, Ashley Simms, Ryan Ankrom, Brandon Simms, Noah Steele, and Lauren Steele; eight great grandchildren; four sisters, Carol Welch of Baltimore, Patsy (Dale) Truex of Tennessee, Diane Morris of Lancaster, and Lu Ann Welch of Baltimore; two brothers, Paul (Malia) Welch of Texas, and Neal (Donna) Welch of Lancaster; many nieces and nephews; and two canine companions.
A thank you goes to the staff of Fairfield Medical Center for their care of Wilbur.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Myrtle Welch.
Funeral service was November 29, 2010, in the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home Chapel and Crematory, Lancaster, with David Tingler officiating. Caring Cremation followed the service. Burial will be in Violet Cemetery at a later date.
