Smith’s ‘retirement’ criticized

Editor:
Some of you
In Licking County
Liked elections a lot . . .
But Commissioner Doug Smith,
Who lived near Kirkersville,
Did NOT!
Smith hated elections! The whole election season!
Now, please don’t ask why. No one quite knows the reason.
It could be, perhaps, that his shoes were too tight.
But I think that the most likely reason of all
May have been that his wallet was two sizes too small.
But,
Whatever the reason,
His wallet or his shoes,
He stood there before election day, deceiving some of you.
Staring out from his desk with a sour grinchy frown
Knowing he would draw his retirement but would still hang around.
“While they’re casting their votes,” he snarled with a sneer,
“They won’t know my retirement is practically here!”
Then he growled, with his fingers nervously drumming.
“I must find a way to keep those votes coming!”
For tomorrow, if they knew,
Some of those girls and boys,
Would open their eyes and wouldn’t vote for their boy!
And then! Oh, the noise! Oh, the noise! Noise! Noise! Noise!
When they find what he’s doing...well they won’t jump for joy.
But some of the voters will sit down to a feast.
And they’ll roast that Doug Smith! That beast! Beast! Beast! Beast!
Then he got an idea!
An awful idea!
Commissioner Smith got a wonderful, awful idea!
“All I need is a partner. . .”
Commissioner Smith looked around.
And since political partners aren’t hard to be found
He called on Tim Bubb, a commissioner he admires
They’d go ‘round the county
They’d get votes, the old liars!
They slithered and slunk, with smiles most unpleasant,
Around the whole county, they made themselves present.
Those Commissioners, you know, were so smart and so slick
They thought up some lies and they thought them up quick!
Bubb wrote endorsements and radio ads.
“He’ll look out for ALL of us,” Bubb silently laughed.
“A true fiscal conservative!,” was the buzz word he used.
Brad Feightner agreed, he’s a Commissioner, too!

According to a local newspaper, Doug Smith knew early in the year what his plans were. I believe he knew long before he ran in the primary and I believe he knew he would have lost that election if people knew his plans.

It is common for Licking County officials (at least the ones favored by the GOB’s - Good Ole Boys) to retire and then be re-hired.

But no matter how you slice it, Doug Smith is an ELECTED public official and should have been looking out for the best interest of those he serves...the taxpayers!
