Jennie Louise Smith
A reception, celebrating the life of Jennie Louise Smith, 70, formerly of Kirkersville, who passed away on July 15, 2010, at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida, will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, November 19, 2010, at the Hoskinson Funeral Home, Kirkersville.
Jennie was born October 7, 1939, in McVeigh, Kentucky, the youngest child of Albert and Gertrude (Runyon) Scott.
Jennie was an elementary school teacher in the Southwest Licking Local School District for 25 years, retiring in 1987. During her years in education, she touched many lives and enjoyed helping children. In addition to being a 52 year member of the Stone Chapter, #533, Order of Eastern Star, in Stone, KY, she was a 1960 graduate of Pikeville College, and a member of the Ohio and the National Education Association. She was also a member of the Newark Freewill Baptist Church.
Jennie married Everett Smith on November 19, 1960. He currently resides in their home in Beverly Hills, Florida. Other survivors include her two children, Michael Everett Smith (Gina) of Franklin, Ohio and Jennifer Smith May (Sherman) of Newark; a sister, Ann France of South Dakota; three grandchildren, Lucas Smith, Joshua Smith and Matthew Bowermaster of Franklin, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Jennie was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Matthew Jay Smith; two brothers, Kenneth Scott and Wendell Scott; and two sisters, Lillian Riggs and Edith Goins.
The family has requested that expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial contributions be directed to the American Cancer Society in her memory.
