Members of the Joy Bible Class at First Community Church in Buckeye Lake pack shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child. First Community is also serving as a Collection Center for the fifth year. National collection week is Nov. 15 thru 21. Collection hours at the Walnut Road (Ohio 79) church are 5- 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20 and 1 - 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 21. First Community collected 743 shoeboxes last year. Operation Christmas Child, the world’s largest Christmas project, will send shoe box gifts this year to more than 8 million children in 100 countries suffering from natural disaster, war, terrorism, disease, famine and poverty. Since 1993, more than 77 million gift-filled shoe boxes have been sent to needy children in some 130 countries. Shoe boxes are filled with school supplies, toys, necessity items like toothbrushes and toothpaste, hard candy and a letter of encouragement.
