Thanks to our veterans
On behalf of the young men of Scout Troop 404 (Mikey Eberts, Nick Jones, Chris Fry, Michael Popo and Tristen Eliott) they would like to thank the 15 people that joined them in trimming and straightening the flags for Veteran’s Day.
Our community has much to be proud of and the cemetery is one of those places. I am always filled with awe as I walk up and down the rows of veterans that are buried there. Many of those men and women lost their lives much too early and they are owed a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid. The history of military service in our community runs deep and there are veterans buried that served in the American Civil War, the Spanish-American War, World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan. We have a proud past and a bright future as long as we give the best we have to offer the world.
It never fails after we finish trimming that a gentle breeze will flutter the flags. You know you are standing on hallowed ground and it is their spirits that are thanking us for remembering.
Don’t forget to visit the traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall in Pickerington at American Legion Post 283 across from Pickerington North High School. It will be open 24 hours a day through Sunday, Nov. 14.
