Residents urged to attend hearing on rezoning for landfill

Editor:

The Walnut Township Board of Trustees will hold a Public Hearing on an application submitted by Jerry and Barbara Mock to change the zoning of their property on Ohio 37 north of Ohio 256 from I-1 (light industrial district) to I-2 (heavy/ general industrial district).

The meeting will be held on Thursday, November 18th, at 7:00 pm, at the Walnut Township Trustee’s office at 11420 Millersport Rd., Millersport.

The Mocks’ are requesting the zoning change so they can operate a construction and demolition debris landfill facility on the property. When the landfill facility is complete, it will be 118 feet high, making it the second tallest point in Walnut Township. They also wish to continue to use the property for their concrete crushing operation, roll off container business, and other current operations.

It has been determined that a construction and demolition debris landfill facility in the area will dramatically decrease property values in a large area of the township. We also feel it could hinder future development by making the area less desirable.

We are urging all residents of Walnut Township to attend this meeting and voice their concerns about property values, and the future development of the area. It is important to let the Trustees know how the citizens of Walnut Township feel about the zoning change and the possibility of a C&DD landfill at that location.
