Wildlights return to Columbus Zoo

COLUMBUS – Beginning November 19, 2010, celebrate the holidays with the magic of Wildlights at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. Wildlights, the holiday light show that is nearly three million LED lights strong, has been a Central Ohio family tradition for 22 years and this year is sure to please!

The Zoo will extend the holiday cheer into its newest section, Polar Frontier. While guests make their way through the North America region they will notice memory boxes featuring replica memorabilia from great holiday moments like “A Christmas Story,” “Elf,” “A Charlie Brown Christmas” and more.

Once at Polar Frontier visitors will be entertained by the Magical Timbernacle Forest Chorus presented by Disney on Ice. The Magical Timbernacle Forest Chorus consists of 29 melodious animatronic arbors who will perform “A Very Beary Royal Holiday” that includes a special Princess element has been added in celebration of Disney on Ice Princess Classics show coming to Nationwide Arena this January.

In its third year running “Rhythms around the Watering Hole”, the main animated light show at the Conservation Lake has been improved with a few new light features and songs to continue to offer the high-energy culmination of contemporary carols that everyone remembers from the past couple of years. This show will run every half hour nightly beginning at 5 p.m.

The hit animal show of the summer is back with a holiday twist. Animals on Safari: Holidays at the Camp is a glimpse into the holiday season at Jack Hanna’s Base Camp.

In addition to all that Wildlights offers Santa will be at the Zoo too! Guests can stop by the Holiday Encounters Village to visit the Jolly Old Elf and his reindeer. On select nights guests can even get photos taken with the reindeer. Other activities in this area include an all new animated holiday light show, “Rodney and Wally’s Not-So- Silent Night” presented in part by Sunny 95. This show features your comedic hosts Rodney Reindeer, Wally Walrus and some heckling penguins. Holiday humor will be spread throughout the evening between the shows with some jokes that are sure to make you chuckle.

Open to the public from November 19, 2010 to January 1, 2011, Wildlights festivities are every Sunday through Thursday from 5p.m. to 9 p.m. and every Friday and Saturday from 5p.m. to 10 p.m. Wildlights is closed the evenings of November 25, December 24 and December 25.

Zoo Year’s Eve, December 26, 2010 to January 1, 2011; Ring in the New Year every night with a special celebration light show at Holiday Encounters Village.
