Michael H. DeLamatre

Michael H. DeLamatre passed away October 15, 2010, in Statesville, North Carolina.

He was born June 23, 1961 in Sandusky, Ohio, the son of Howard and Marjorie DeLamatre of Rushville, Ohio. At an early age, the family moved to Perry County where Mike developed a love of family, friends and farm. He was a 1984 graduate of Sheridan High School and held Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in education from Ohio University. Mike taught at Thornville Elementary, and Sheridan Middle and High Schools before moving to Statesville, North Carolina to teach at the American Renaissance Charter School. Mike loved teaching and will be remembered by his students for, among other things, his Lego projects, his collection of ties and his desk drawer full of candy rewards.

He is survived by his parents; sisters, Chris DeLamatre of Athens and Marty DeLamatre of Circleville; brother, Tim DeLamatre (Mary) of Columbus; nieces, Emma Stanley and Katie DeLamatre; nephews, Joe Stanley, Nick Stanley and Sam DeLamatre; aunts and uncles, Ward and Fern DeLamatre of Huron, Ohio and William and Elsie DeLamatre of Vermilion, Ohio; and many cousins and friends.

A gathering to celebrate Mike’s life will be held Sunday, October 24, 2010 from 2-4 p.m. at the American Legion Hall in Somerset.

A memorial scholarship fund has been established in Mike’s memory. Donations can be sent to Jane Kunkler c/o Sheridan High School, 8725 Sheridan Road, Thornville, OH 43076.
