Richard Henry Tussing
Richard Henry Tussing, 89, of Baltimore, passed away Thursday, September 16, 2010, at Heartland- Fairfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born January 9, 1921, to the late Wilson and Mabel Pheister Tussing. He belonged to Trinity United Church of Christ of Baltimore and served as the Sunday School Superintendent for many years. After serving in the US Navy for six years, he worked for Timely Products in Baltimore for 32 years until he retired. During this time he and his family opened the Baltimore Laundromat in 1959 and sold it in 1977. He was a 50 year member of the Baltimore VFW Post 3761, Baltimore Masonic Lodge #475 F & AM, Lancaster Commandery, Chapter and Council, and Parthenia Chapter #124 Order of Eastern Star. He also belonged to Aladdin Shrine, Scottish Rite, the Cross of Constantine and KYCH.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Emma Finkbone Tussing; son, Donald (Sue) of Macon, GA; daughter, Jean (Ronald) Bauman of Baltimore; two granddaughters, Stacy and Denise Tussing of Columbus; three step granddaughters, Jennifer (Doug) Morris of Macon, GA, Chris (Greg) James of Nelsonville, Ohio, and Kim (Billy) Harris of AL; six step great grandchildren; six step great great grandchildren; sisters, Helen Creed and Mary Boso both of Millersport; brother, Elmer (Bertie) Tussing of Hilliard; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two children, Gary Lynn and Elizabeth; his parents; and brothers, Edward, Howard, and Roy. Funeral service was held September 20, 2010, in the Johnson-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Baltimore, with Rev. Jill Dunlap officiating. Burial followed in Union Evangelical Cemetery with the Baltimore VFW Post 3761 conducting military rites at the cemetery.
