Loy B. Grile
Loy B. Grile, 92 of Lancaster, former resident of Baltimore, died Saturday, September 4, 2010, at Primrose Assisted Living.
He was a World War II US Navy veteran serving on the USS Kadashan Bay, an escort carrier. He was a steam plant superintendent and retired from Crown Zellerbach with 34 years of service. He was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church in Baltimore, and in 1948 he helped establish the Basil Emergency Squad. He was the fire chief from 1958-1974 and served on the fire department for 34 years.
He was survived by his wife of 70 years, Minnie Grile; children, Gloria (Ronald) Swinehart of Apache Junction, AZ, Tanis Sue (Dan) Gall of Baltimore, Thomas J. (Rose) Grile of NC, and Debra (James) Ballenger of Logan; ten grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; sisters, Frances Fox of Columbus, Reatha Klinger of Maryland, and Nellie Bugh of Baltimore; many nieces, nephews; and good friends, Bob and Shirley Miller of Lancaster.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Jessie Grile; brother, Dale Grile; and sisters, Eileen Loy and Mildred Miller.
Funeral service was held September 8, 2010, at Faith Lutheran Church in Baltimore, with Rev. Jeffrey Morlock officiating with. Burial followed in Floral Hills Memory Gardens with the Baltimore VFW Post 3761 conducting military rites at the cemetery.
