Helen E. Haugan
Helen E. Haugan, age 85, passed away on Friday, August 27, 2010, at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster.
She was born on January 25, 1925, in Pleasantville, to the late Anthony Lewis and Ada (Hodge) Saum. Helen lived 30 wonderful years in Alaska where she excelled as a realtor, and in her 50’s received her private pilot’s license and later learned to play the violin. Music was an important part of her life and after moving back to Ohio in 1999, Helen loved playing the violin in a band that provided music for Olivedale Senior Citizens Saturday night square dances. She was active in her church, playing the piano and organ and she sang with the Ohio Senior Buckeye Chorus at the Ohio State Fair.
Helen is survived by her children, Cheryl Beaty, and Terry (Pat) Yost; five stepchildren; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; and first husband, Charles Yost; and five siblings.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 3, 2010, from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. at the Boring- Sheridan Funeral Home, 56 South Main Street, Thornville. Funeral service will be on Saturday, September 4, 2010 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Brad Jones officiating at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Drumms Bottom Cemetery.
