Tour of Homes draws hundreds to Buckeye Lake

LIEB’S ISLAND – More than 800 people turned out for the 25th edition of the Buckeye Lake Area Civic Association’s Tour of Homes.

The first boat was set to leave the state boat dock at Lieb’s Island at noon. Thanks to early arrivals, chair Janet Bartholow sent the first boat out at about 11:15 a.m. That started a steady stream of pontoon boats in and out of the docks for the next four hours ferrying visiors to five lakeside homes.

A total of 360 tickets were presold and by 1 p.m. some 370 visitors were out on the lake. The first group returned to Lieb’s Island just after 1 p.m.

More than 30 pontoon boat owners donated the use of their boats and served as captains. It took more than 180 volunteers from boat captains to home hostesses.

Four corporate sponsors ensured its financial success: Joyce and Kyle Thorp of Re/Max Realty Centre; Compass Point & North Point Island; Buckeye Lake Region Chamber of Commerce ; and Coconis Furniture & Floor Covering.
