Michael J. Shell
Michael J. Shell, age 63, of Thornville, passed away on Friday, July 23, 2010, at the Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster.
Mike was born on July 30, 1946 in Thornville, to James Abner and Elizabeth (Wyckoff) Shell. He was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Thornville. Mike was a 1964 graduate of Sheridan High School; he served his country in the US Navy. He was a member of the Thornport AMVETS, Thornville American Legion and the Thornville I.O.O.F. Mike retired from Owens-Corning in 2001. He was a 27 year member of the Thornville Fire Department and subbed as a custodian for Northern Local Schools. Mike loved spending time with his grandchildren; working on his Ford truck “Big Red” and being with his dog “Romeo”.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary Ann (Hale) Shell; son, Jamie (Brandi) Shell; grandchildren, Eli and Cali Shell; mother, Elizabeth “Betty” Shell; sister, Rebecca Shell; several brothers and sisters-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, James Abner Shell.
Funeral services was held July 28, 2010, at the Boring-Sheridan Funeral Home, Thornville, with Pastor Rick Bennington officiating. Burial followed at the Baptist Reformed Cemetery in Thornville.
