Donald Jauss, age 77, of Thornville, passed away July 22, 2010, at home with his wife by his side, following a five and one half year battle with cancer.
Mr. Jauss was born December 10, 1932, in Saint Louis, Missouri to the late Joseph J. and Irma Helena (Bolte) Jauss. Mr. Jauss grew up in Michigan and served in the United States Army for two years during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Newark Air Force Base in the late 1980’s and also owned the Turquoise Shop in north Newark where he was a silver and goldsmith and repaired jewelry.
An excellent carpenter and handyman, Mr. Jauss was also a car enthusiast and enjoyed rebuilding and restoring cars, particularly Corvettes. He was an avid golfer.
He is survived by his wife, Rosellen (Huth) Jauss; daughters, Kerry (Dale) McVay of Fredericktown, Lynne Buxton of Newark, Carin (Bob) Shadwick of Florida and Colleen (Gal) Coelho Moshe of Texas; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Delores Morehead of Florida and Dorothy (Eddie) French of Michigan; many nieces and nephews; and beloved pet, Tootsie.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two nephews, Terry French and Rod French; and a brother-in-law, Donnie Morehead.
According to his wishes there will be no service or calling hours observed. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, D.C.
