Last call for BLACA boat parade

LIEB’S ISLAND – There is a new starting time and an expanded kickoff ceremony for the Buckeye Lake Area Civic Association’s Annual 4th of July Boat Parade.

Since July 4th is a Sunday, the parade start has been pushed back to 1 p.m. Howard Everitt returns to pay the National Anthem and the Buckeye Lake VFW Post 1388 honor guard will raise the flag. The Post is adding a 21-gun salute to this year’s ceremony.

This year’s theme is “Salute to Our Troops.” Grand Marshal is World War II veteran Nelson Trimmer. He is 91 years young and a life-long resident of Millersport.

The annual parade forms at Lieb’s Island, in front of the park office, traveling along the West Bank, North Bank, past the yacht club, through Cranberry Bay, along the shoreline of Harbor Hills and Avondale, ending at Captain Woody’s.

Last minute entries are welcome. “We just want participation,” parade chair Don Carley told The Beacon. Call him at 740-467-7018 if you have any questions.
