Phyllis M. Waits
Phyllis was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church. She devoted over 40 years to Christian education and leadership. She was involved with Girl Scouts, 4H, Children’s Christian Camporee. She was a prolific and accomplished poet and award winning author; a prize winning cook, baker, and judge at local and state fairs; and Handmaiden to the Lord. She was also active art associations and extension groups.
Phyllis is survived by her sons, Jerry M. (Lucy) Waits of Lancaster and Matthew T. (Karla) Waits of Baltimore; daughter, Lana S. (Colo nel Mark) Reed of Cedar Point, NC; grandchildren, Joshua (Megan) Reed of NC, Ashlee Reed of NC, Jonathan Reed of NC, Emma Marie Waits of Lancaster, Jeremy Clinton Waits of Lancaster, Frederick Elisha Waits of Lancaster, Kaleb Matthew Waits of Baltimore, and Kameron Burnside Todd Waits of Baltimore; great grandchildren, Olivia Reed, Noah Reed, and Madelyn Reed; sister, Wanda V. Block of Lancaster; brothers, George William (Connie) Gerken of Lancaster and Gary (Gerry) Gerken of Davenport, IA; sistersin law, Carol Leist of Lancaster and Margaret Poston of Lancaster; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Waits; and parents, Fred Moffet and Freda (Schromme) Gerken.
Funeral service was held June 22, 2010, at the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home, Lancaster, with Reverend Mark R. Raddatz officiating. Burial followed in Forest Rose Cemetery.
