Jeff Gordon’s car coming to Baltimore

BALTIMORE - Jeff Gordon’s No. 24 car will be at Baltimore Market IGA Express from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 25. As in previous years, the appearance will benefit Christ United Methodist Church’s “Sending Love Over There” project.

Since February 2007, the Baltimore church has been sending weekly boxes of food and personal items to area troops in Afghanistan and Iraq. So far, more than 1,500 flat rate Global Priority boxes have been sent. Each box costs $12.50 to ship.

On Friday, project volunteers will be selling a limited number of Jeff Gordon posters and cardboard stand-ups donated by Pepsi and Baltimore Market IGA. They will also be accepting donations of items such as sunscreen, playing cards, magazines, AA batteries, socks, gum and compact snack items. Cards and letters to the troops are also appreciated. Call the church at (740) 862-4343 for a more detailed list.

Free Kahn’s hot dogs on Heiner’s buns will be available during the car’s visit. Velvet Ice Cream has teamed up with Mug root beer and Orange Crush to give away floats. Prizes from Pepsi will be given away in drawings.

WCOL 92.3’s Dan E. Zuko and Pepsi MAX will be at the event.
