One rough inning ends great Lancer season

COLUMBUS – More than a thousand Lakewood fans turned at out Huntington Park to see the 27- 4 and unranked Lancers take on 28-1 and No. 2 ranked Cuyahoga Falls Walsh Jesuit last Friday night in a state semi-final game.

The Warriors scored in the top of the first inning with a double and bunt single for a 1-0 lead. The Lancers tied it up in the second inning with a Jacob Gray double and a Justin White single.

The third inning was the killer. A single, followed by a bunt sacrifice, set the stage. Center fielder Brandon Wesney slipped on the wet grass, running in for a fly ball. It went over his head to the fence for a triple, giving the Warriors a 2-1 lead. A single, a walk, a passed ball and a wild pitch then netted two more runs for Jesuit.

The Lancers continued to battle and held Jesuit scoreless after the third, but couldn’t put together enough hits to score..
