M. Eugene “Gene” Cooperider

M. Eugene “Gene” Cooperider, 69, of Glenford, died at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at his residence with his family by his side.

Gene was born June 26, 1940, in Glassrock, the son of Louise Melick Cooperider of Somerset, and the late Merril W. Cooperider (Dec. 19, 1994).

He was a member of Mount Perry Presbyterian Church and was an Army veteran. Gene had formerly worked for Central Silica, Tussing L.P. Gas, Carpenter Oil, and the last eight years for Northern Local Schools where he retired in 2004. He had a passion for tractors and was an avid tractor puller. He pulled tractors for 50 years and placed in the state in the 1970’s.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are three sons, Greg and Luanne Frizzell of Newark, Mark A. and Deborah Frizzell of Millersport, and Ronald L. and Michelle Copperrider of Rushville; 11 grandchildren, Renee, Billy, Joey, Jenny, Ashley and her husband, Zack, Adam, Ariel, Alton, Seth Claire and Jill; five great-grandchildren, Ashlee, Jessie, Payton, Austin, and Eden; and one brother, Neil and Linda Cooperider of Mount Perry.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Janet E. St. Clair Cooperider (May 26, 2003).

Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 28, 2010 at the Bope-Thomas Funeral Home in Somerset where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 29, 2010, with the Rev. Diana Circelli officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Leo Ryan Post 58 will provide graveside military honors.
