Voters urged to support Liberty Union income tax renewal

Editor,

I consider myself lucky to be raising my family in Baltimore. One of the biggest reasons is that we have a tremendous school system.

Liberty Union provides a great education and does so in a way that protects our taxpayer dollars to an extent not seen in many districts. This spring voters in thedistrict will have the chance to renew an income tax that helps to operateour schools. With inflation on the rise, tax revenues down, and state politicians taking an ax to the funding that good schools like LU receive, it wouldn’t have been a surprise to see the school board ask for a tax increase. However, the board did exactly what they have done in the past and took the fiscally prudent course of not asking for a tax increase during a recession. If only other governmental leaders were that smart!

Issue 4 simply renews the current income tax for five additional years. It’s not permanent and it’s NOT a tax increase. It also isn’t a burden for folks who’ve lost their jobs in this down economy! It provides many valuable services for our children, such as all day Kindergarten. Without these funds, Liberty Union will be forced to make cuts that will have a negative effect on the school system.

I hope readers will join me in voting “YES” on Issue 4 which will keep our

schools great without a tax increase!
