Poppy Day is May 1

MILLERSPORT – Poppy Day is Saturday, May 1. Members of the Millersport American Legion Auxiliary Unit 637 will be distributing the traditional paper poppies downtown and at businesses.

Kennedy Ervin is 2010 Little Miss Poppy Queen. She is the daughter of Clint and Amy Ervin and is a member of the Junior Auxiliary. She is eligible through her father’s service in Operation Desert Shield to liberate Kuwait. The fourth grader is home-schooled.

The American Legion Auxiliary sponsors Poppy Day annually to remind us of the sacrifices made by our service men and women. The poppies are handmade by veterans and never sold. Contributions are welcome and they will be devoted entirely to rehabilitation for veterans and child welfare for their children.

The Auxiliary is also holding its annual No-Bake Sale in May. Members are asked to make monetary donations to the Auxiliary. Sangamon Mills dish clothes are also for sale at the Olde Canal Restaurant or call Carol Kitzmiller at 467-2234.
