More support for Liberty Union tax renewal

On May 4th, Liberty Union- Thurston School District residents will be asked to support a renewal of the 0.5% income tax operating levy that was initially approved in 2005. It is due to expire next year if district voters do not approve a renewal of that original levy which would result in a substantial reduction in the necessary operating funds for the district.

The renewal levy will continue the current income tax rate and will not result in any increase in the current rate. For some, in light of the present economic environment and individual situations, there may actually be a net decrease in the amount of income tax being paid.

As a result of the original passage of the levy in 2005, Liberty Union-Thurston school district was able to expand the educational opportunities provided to the students of our district. Perhaps one of the more obvious has been the institution of full day, five days per week kindergarten. This has proven tremendously beneficial to our district and will continue to do so in the years to come. This renewal will not change the current tax rate and will ensure our district continues to provide high quality education for our children.

There will be a community informational meeting on April 25 from 2-4 PM in the elementary school library. I would invite anyone with questions to attend.

I urge all district voters to support the renewal levy. Vote yes on Issue 4!
