Charles May, age 88, of Hebron, passed away on Sunday, March 7, 2010, at Newark Healthcare Center, Newark.
He was born January 19, 1922, in Grundy, Virginia, to Johney and Lula May. He was a member of Columbus United Baptist Church, was a highly decorated W.W.II veteran, he was awarded the Purple Heart and he retired from the Newark Air Force Base.
Charles is survived by his wife, Wanda May; children, Tony May of South Dakota, Sherry Dupler of Hebron, Bill (Debbie) May of Thornville, and Jack (Laurie) May of Newark; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Violet Akers of Pataskala, Betty McCoy of Heath, and Pauline Smith of Pataskala; brother, Bill (Sue) May of Millersport; sister-in-law, Betty Gunnels of Ransom, Kentucky; brothers-in-law, Fran (Vicky) Moon and David Harris both of Ransom, Kentucky; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by brothers, Carson, Lee, James, Ed, Jesse, Algie and Roger May.
Friends and family may call on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. at Boring-Sheridan Funeral Home, 108 North 7th Street, Hebron. Funeral service was March 10, 2010, with Assistant Pastor Frank Dials officiating. Burial followed with a military service at Glen Rest Cemetery in Reynoldsburg.
