Northern Local superintendent retires

By Scott Rawdon

THORNVILLE – Northern Local School District Superintendent Jack Porter abruptly retired effective April 1. He is taking vacation days until April 1 and is no longer working at the district.

“He just decided now was the time,” said Northern Local School Board President Dale De- Rolph. He said Porter served 15 years as district superintendent. He retired earlier at the end of the 2008-2009 school year, only to be rehired for another year.

DeRolph said the board is looking for an interim superintendent and is considering several people. Anyone hired before April 1, if it happens, would be hired on a consultant basis until that date. In the meantime, Assistant Superintendent Casey Coffey is taking over superintendent duties. “We’re open for business,” said DeRolph.

Porter could not be reached for comment.
